Between Lighthouse and Horizon

Sea and Coast – Motifs Between Engineering, Tradition, and Openness

I am a child of the coast, born and raised in northern Germany near the Elbe estuary and the North Sea. Even during the years when I did not live in northern Germany, I returned regularly to the coast and the sea. Whenever I was there, I felt compelled to capture the unique atmosphere—the light, the vastness, the water, the silence, and the sound of the waves. And again and again: the lighthouses.

Their beauty lies not only in their natural or architectural presence, but also in their history and symbolic power. Every stretch of coastline, every beach, every dike, and every lighthouse tells its own story—of rough seas, changing tides, courageous people, and places rich in tradition. They represent a sense of home, a place of calm, and a source of inspiration all at once.

Through my photography, I aim not only to document this beauty, but also the stories connected to it. It is my way of expressing my deep connection to the coastal region and its culture. At the same time, it offers others the opportunity to discover this fascinating world—and perhaps find their own connection to the sea.
